Now we need to make a spacing
gauge.
On a piece of wood with a nice
straight edge, about 30 inches long, make a series of marks 3/16 of a inch apart using a red ball
point pen, and then make marks using a black pen in between the red lines.
This piece will be clamped to
the drill press table and the jig will be slid along the nice straight edge.
The edge of the jig will be aligned with the colored marks, the color of the
mark matching the color of the indexing bolt head.
Here is the jig with a black
mark on the index bolt lined up with the red line. Note that the edge of the
jig is aligned with a black line on the spacing gauge. Easy to remember, BLACK
mark on index bolt-BLACK line on spacing gauge; RED mark on index bolt-RED line
on spacing gauge.
