Fixing
an I.H. LA/LB Fuel Tank - Page 4
Well, I knew that the threads on the carb. body, where the fuel line connects, were stripped, but thought I could get away with some JB Weld. The JB held for the test run, but later failed when I tried to run a full tank through. It's getting close to Coolspring time, and I have other engines to get ready, so I opted for the easy way out.
This is a SwageLoc 1/4-tube coupling sans one end's accessories. The bare end is "screwed" into the stripped threads and held in place with AcraGlas. The threads don't match, so it was tightened very gently with fingers only. The AcraGlas holds it securely and seals as well.
Same, only closer.
The tank fitting was removed and the copper tube cut and soldered to the threaded end. If the solder joint looks "cold" it's because I didn't want the solder to run into the tubing end of the fitting. The engine, fuel tank and fuel line were re-assembled, using 1/4-inch Nylon tube for the tank to carb. connection. Now the engine starts and runs well.
