Mosin-Nagant Scope Mount
Page 1
I didn't want a high-mount scope or a "scout" configuration for my scoped M44, so I searched for a more conventional mount. It seems that the M-N is some kind of step-child, scope-wise, as nobody seems to make a mount for it. I searched through a box of side mounts and came up with a Weaver #1, designed for everything BUT the M-N. But it looked like it might work, so this is it.
The base is at the bottom of the photo, Ý Ý Ý , and above it, fastened to a scope, is a Weaver "short" side mount ring. Actually one piece with two rings, and a bar, permanently fastened together. The screws attach the ring set to the base.
Clamped together, the entire thing looks like this Ý Ý Ý .
The #1 base was clamped to the receiver, with the front edge of the base aligned with the front edge of the receiver.

And another.
The scope/ring set were screwed to the clamped base, and the clamp loosened, and the whole thing rotated around the receiver until the scope was vertical atop the receiver, then the clamp was tightened in preparation for drilling some holes.
NOTE, that the base might cover the serial number, it did on my rifle. This caused me two concerns; 1. The number stamping left some upset metal, and this needed removed with a file, and while I didn't file the S/N off, the numerals got weak; 2. I copied the S/N and will engrave it somewhere else, now the engraved S/N will not be legal, but it will satisfy most people, for the others, I can remove the mount.
